In this edition of the “Best of” The Cleveland Stater, I interview CSU President, Dr. Laura Bloomberg about the state of the university. Morgan Alten digs into Thanksgiving festivities at the annual Vikesgiving event. Nicole Wloszek shines a spotlight on underground student fashion in Cleveland. Ruby Darwish provides an inside look at the Umoja event hosted by the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center. And Anthony Reed roasts the hapless Cleveland Browns.
In a wide-ranging interview, Cleveland State President Laura Bloomberg, Ph.D., explained how the administration sees the shuttering of CSU's radio station, the administration's approach to ICE, declining international student numbers, SB1, the budget, and what matters to her in the job.

One of the most anticipated fall events, Vikesgiving, combined community and cultural diversity on Nov. 20. The dinner, hosted by Viking Food Co., is aimed to provide a meal for those who remain on campus for Thanksgiving. Culturally blended food, volunteering and cultural education brought a plethora of students together ahead of the holiday break.

Hidden within an old factory building, fashion, creativity and passion illuminated the worn interior. The MurdaMental Fashion Runway was organized by Cleveland State University students who wanted to highlight fashion designs, live performances by musicians and local art vendors. Beyond the entertainment, a chance to network, socialize and cultivate connections for the Cleveland area.

Community needs, public policy and the role of civic engagement in northeast Ohio’s future was the focus of the Umoja Round Table event hosted by CSU’s Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center. At the table sat several civic leaders who have made strides for change in the Cleveland area – surrounding them, students learned about the importance of civic engagement and how they can make a difference.

With an embarrassing record and seemingly irrational drafting decisions, The Cleveland Browns have truly plagued Anthony Reed, who, as much as he winces at every loss and poor decision, can’t help but support the team. Reed delves into the team’s past performances and a history of poor draft decisions, and gives his take as to what is causing the team to continuously let fans down.
