CSU tennis hosts Youngstown Friday after narrow IU Indy loss
The Cleveland State men’s tennis team fell just short in a 4-3 loss at IU Indy during the second match of Horizon League opening weekend play on March 21.
“IU Indy earned this one today, they played a great match and although this was a tough loss, I'm looking forward to how we respond when we hit the courts again next week,” head coach Brian Etzkin said.
Cleveland State dropped the doubles point, despite a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot from the top team of Lincoln Battle and Carl Gedlitschka.
Trailing 1-0 entering singles play, the Vikings quickly evened the score as Battle secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the top of the lineup.
IU Indy answered with three straight singles wins at No. 5, No. 2, and No. 4 to clinch the match.
After the decision was finalized, Devin Boyer earned a 7-6(4), 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, while Nico Jamison added a 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(5) victory at No. 3, bringing the final score to 4-3 in favor of IU Indy.
Cleveland State returns to action Friday, hosting Youngstown State at 6 p.m.
