CSU men’s soccer shuts out Detroit Mercy 2-0

Djorde Petrovic (10) scored both goals in the home game Saturday, Cleveland State's first league win of the year and second clean sheet of the season.

Cleveland State (2-3-1, 1-1-0) shut out Detroit Mercy (1-5-1, 0-2-0) 2-0 for its first league win of the season on Saturday evening.

The first shot of the game for the home team resulted in a Djordje Petrovic goal off a ball from Tom Mertz.

The 1-0 advantage held heading into the intermission despite Cleveland State having just that single shot. The Vikings' defense extended its first-half shutout streak to six games.

Petrovic went spin cycle on a pair of Titan defenders before finding the corner netting for his second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead for the Vikings in the 62nd minute.

The 2-0 victory secured for Cleveland State its first league win of the year and second clean sheet of the season. The Vikings are now 1-1 in league play and 7th in the standings after two Horizon League games.

The Vikings held a 9-7 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. Uzman Ramees, Domenic Ruggiero and Petrovic all had two shots apiece.

Aleksandar Kolar made one save for his second shutout of the year in goal.

Up next: The Vikings are again at home on Saturday, Sept. 19 as Green Bay (2-5-1) visits Krenzler Field at 2 p.m.
