SU men’s basketball drops regular-season finale to Robert Morris
Cleveland State men's basketball (10-21, 6-14) closed out the regular season with a loss at Robert Morris (21-10, 13-7) 83-64 on Saturday, Feb. 28.
The Vikings used all 13 players in the rotation, with 12 entering the scoring column. Chevalier Emery led the way with 11 points. Tre Beard handed out a team-high five assists and Josiah Harris grabbed five rebounds.
The favored Robert Morris opened with a 12-5 lead before an Emery jumper sparked a 14-0 Viking run capped by a Kamari Jones 3-pointer, giving CSU its first lead at 19-12 with 10:57 left in the first half.
The Vikings pushed the margin to 29-18 on a Manny Hill 3-pointer with 7:22 remaining.
RMU answered with a 12-1 run to tie the game at 30-30 at the 4:15 mark.
Foster Wonders hit from beyond the arc to briefly put CSU back in front, but the Colonials tied it at halftime, 39-39, on a jumper with three seconds left.
Cleveland State led for five of the first six minutes of the second half, despite four lead changes and two ties. After Beard knocked down a 3 to make it 54-50 at the 14:15 mark, Robert Morris responded with a 23-2 run to take a 73-56 lead with 5:54 remaining and cruised to the 83-64 win.
