CSU men’s swimming finishes 5th at Horizon League meet

The Vikings closed out the championship with a school-record 400 freestyle relay and multiple top-10 program marks in Indianapolis.

The Cleveland State University men’s swimming and diving team placed fifth at the 2026 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship, totaling 391 points when the four-day meet concluded Saturday.

The Vikings’ finish came against a deep conference field, with Oakland claiming the team title with 904 points, followed by IU Indy (785.5) and Youngstown (494).

Cleveland State opened the final day of competition with momentum in the 200-yard backstroke. Noah Greer finished 10th in 1:46.88, the eighth-fastest time in program history, while Tanner Beck placed 15th in 1:50.28.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Daniel Lyngaas led the way with a fifth-place finish in 43.98 seconds, trimming 0.3 seconds off his previous program mark to remain fifth all-time. Joe Parkhurst added a 10th-place swim in 44.48, ranking ninth in school history. Jacopo Lanzo (44.87) placed 13th, while Justin Schneider (45.10) and Gabe Hudgens (45.42) finished 15th and 16th, respectively. The Vikings scored key points in the 200-yard breaststroke, where Tyler Schultze (1:56.92) and  Aidan Florio (1:57.04) finished fourth and fifth. Gorkem Sulun took 10th in 2:01.12. Colton Stoecker recorded a 15th-place showing in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.79. 

Distance swimmers Brock Wallace and Noah Lang delivered back-to-back finishes in the 1650-yard freestyle. Wallace touched 10th in 15:49.76, the 10th-fastest performance in program history, with Lang close behind in 15:52.77. 

The championship concluded with Cleveland State’s strongest statement of the meet. Lyngaas, Parkhurst, Schneider and Lanzo combined for a school-record time of 2:55.45 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing fourth overall to close out the event for the Vikings. 

Cleveland State is now turning its focus to post-season qualifying opportunities and offseason training as swimmers await potential NCAA consideration times and prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
