
SWAT, Cleveland Police respond to shooting near CSU campus
A man opened fire at his apartment building directly across from Cleveland State University’s campus on Jan. 31, resulting in responses from city police and SWAT.
CSU sent students a text message at 10:20 a.m. warning them of reports of gunfire in the Milton Manor Apartment at 2344 Prospect Ave. E.
- 10:20 a.m. CSU EMERGENCY ALERT: There is a report of gun fire inside Milton Manor at 2344 Prospect. Police are onsite and have contained the suspect. Stay away from the area.
A spokesperson from Cleveland Police (CPD) told Fox 8, that officers responded to a report regarding a tenant shooting through his door at the apartment complex around 10:00 a.m. when a building worker knocked on it.
The Milton Manor Apartments are accessible to students looking for off-campus housing while still being close to the university. Walker & Weeks Apartments, another option for off-campus housing and home to one of CSU’s student chapters is next to Milton Manor.
CSU continued to update the university community via its alert system as Police and SWAT worked to contain the situation, including closing roads in the area.

Local media reported that CPD called in SWAT after the suspect fired through his door when police responded to the first report of shooting. The suspect was tased and taken into custody.
CSU students received a final alert at 11:37 a.m., giving the all clear.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment. His identity has not been released.
