CSU cuts three sports programs amid athletics restructuring
In a decision made during today’s board of trustees meeting, CSU announced significant changes to its athletics programs. This included the discontinuation of three NCAA sports – wrestling, women’s golf and softball – at the conclusion of their respective seasons this academic year. Additionally, the university will relocate its Esports program to the Washkewicz College of Engineering.
These decisions were made by a working group comprised of representatives from CSU athletics, CSU faculty and community partners, and are a part of a broader effort to address budget concerns and ensure the sustainability of the CSU athletics department.
“I understand that some of you may be surprised by today’s decision,” President Laura Bloomberg, Ph.D., said. “Athletics remains an integral part of the CSU experience, and we have no plans to discontinue any of our remaining Division I sport programs.”
