CSU's Bucknavich wraps up collegiate career at NCAA Championships

Cleveland State heavyweight Bucknavich exits early at the NCAA Championships, concluding a commendable career.

Cleveland State heavyweight Daniel Bucknavich saw his run come to an end on the first day of the 2025 NCAA Championships March 20 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Bucknavich fell to No. 10 Dayton Pitzer of Pitt (6-2) in the opening round, then was eliminated by No. 26 Peter Ming of Stanford (4-2) in the consolation bracket.

Despite the early exit, Bucknavich concludes an impressive collegiate career.

The mechanical engineering senior is a three-time MAC placer, a two-time NCAA qualifier and a four-time All-Academic honoree, finishing with 78 career victories, seven major decisions, one technical fall and 23 falls.

For Cleveland State wrestling it's the end of an era, following the decision by the CSU board of trustees earlier this year to shutter wrestling, women's golf and softball.
