Women’s soccer loses to Milwaukee 2-1 in Horizon League opener

In a tightly-contested matchup where the score remained 1-1 for most of the game, Milwaukee pulled ahead 2-1 after a 25-yard free kick from midfielder Clara Broecker in the 81st minute.

Cleveland State women’s soccer fell 2-1 to the Milwaukee Panthers in their Horizon League opener on Sept. 14 at Krenzler Field.

The Panthers exerted pressure on the Vikings' defense, turning their chances into shot opportunities and maintaining an 8-5 shot advantage in the game. Clara Broecker and Kayla Rollins scored goals for the Panthers.

CSU midfielder Brooke Opfermann delivered a strong performance against the Panthers, with two shots on goal, one of which found the net, her first collegiate goal. Vikings goalkeeper Liv Fain also made a notable contribution  to the match with five saves.

With this result, the Vikings now hold a 1-3 record in home games this season. They returned to the road on Sept. 17, tying IUPUI 2-2. One of CSU's strongest takeaways so far this season has been the team's away performance, with a 2-2-1 record.
