CSU's Vicario shines at women’s tennis invitational

Cleveland State hosted the Vikings Invitational, with Oihane Vicario taking the singles title, only the third CSU athlete to claim the crown in the seven-year history of the tournament.

Cleveland State’s women’s tennis hosted the seventh annual Vikings Invitational Oct. 20-22, at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on Cleveland State University’s campus.

The three-day tournament brought competitors from Duquenesque, Eastern Michigan and Youngstown State. The teams competed in multiple rounds of singles and doubles matches throughout the weekend in hopes to take home one of the two titles.

Both the singles and doubles champions are chosen based on points awarded throughout the weekend. Each athlete is given points according to their lineup position, and the singles player and doubles team with the most accumulated points are crowned Viking Invitational Champions.

The winner this year in the singles was Cleveland State’s Oihane Vicario. She is only the third CSU athlete to claim the title in the seven-year history of the tournament.

Eastern Michigan’s Sabina Brichackova and Ksyusha Saenko had a 4-0 doubles record, earning them the title of Vikings Invitational Doubles Champions.

The Vikings travel to Toledo Oct. 27-28, to continue their fall season at the Rocket Invite.
