CSU men’s tennis closes Viking Invitational with a flurry of wins

The doubles pair of Carl Gedlitschka and Maxime Aremon powered into the main draw final, while Tristan Stine won two consolation singles matches on the final day of the Vikings Invitational.

The CSU men’s tennis team competed in single and double matches against several universities at the Vikings Invitational from Oct. 24-26.

Friday

Cleveland State men's tennis team opened play at the Viking Invitational on Friday, as Carl Gedlitschka and Devin Boyer both advanced to the Round of 16 in the main singles draw.

After receiving first-round byes, both players earned straight-set victories. Gedlitschka  defeated Wayne State's Thomas Mathys with a 6-1,6-2, while Boyer notched a 7-5, 6-2 win over Youngstown State's Dominik Vonbank

In doubles, the team of Gedlitschka and Maxime Aremon secured a 6-3 victory over Duquesne's Alfrendo Vogelaar and Uvan Patel  to earn their spot in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Saturday 

Cleveland State men's tennis team continued on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the doubles pair of Gedlitschka and Aremon leading the way for the Vikings.

The duo powered into the main draw final with two decisive wins, first a 6-2 quarterfinal victory over Youngstown State's Matteo Ceradelli and Vonbank, followed by a 6-0 victory sweep of Wayne State's Luis Klaus and Harry Forsyth in the semifinals.

In singles, both Gedlitschka and Boyer won their Round of 16 matches. Gedlitschka won 6-1, 6-3 and Boyer posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Both players, however, were defeated in their subsequent quarterfinal matches. 

Tristan Stine earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Niagara in his back draw match.

Sunday

Cleveland State closed the tournament Sunday, highlighted by a strong performance from Stine in consolation singles.

The CSU freshman recorded back-to-back straight-set wins, first a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wayne State's Cole Anderson, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win against Rohan Bhat, who was an independent player not playing for any specific team.

In the doubles, Stine and Boyer teamed for a 6-4 consolation victory. The team of Gredlitschka and Aremon concluded their run in the main draw double final, dropping a 6-3 decision against Wayne State. 

What’s Next?

The Vikings will conclude their fall season at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
