Cleveland State Basketball signs two in 2021 recruiting class
CSU men's basketball got a much needed boost in the rebounding department when two recruits previously committed to the 2021 intake signed letters of intent, Anderson Mirambeaux and Cole Middleton.
Both prospects give CSU a much needed boost under the boards, where the Vikings ranked 7th in the Horizon League in last season.
Mirambeaux is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He started his collegiate basketball career at Trinity Valley College, a junior college in Texas. In his single season at TVC, he averaged 14.6 points and 9.5 rebounds, nearly a double-double.
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing just over 280 pounds, Mirambeaux brings a physical presence to the post, and could fill a role that current senior Algevon Eichelberger holds.
“I’m a physical player who loves to get after it in the paint,” Mirambeaux said. “I am going to do what it takes to grab a board or grind to get a bucket.”
Mirambeaux said head coach Dennis Gates was an instrumental part of his decision to come to CSU, especially in the weird recruiting year this was due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The relationship with Coach Gates and the staff was huge for me,” Mirambeaux explained. “It was all about relationships and trust in my recruitment and they gave that.”
Cole Middleton is the second member of the Vikings recruiting class and was the first to commit to CSU in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Middleton is a 6-foot-6 forward who excels at both ends of the floor.
This past season at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, Middleton averaged 12.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Showing an ability to score, rebound and defend the rim, Middleton is expected to be a factor at both ends of the court for the Vikings.
It is obvious the approach Coach Gates took in recruiting when addressing his team's needs, with the prospect of more post play and rebounding going forward.
Cleveland State has two scholarships remaining for the 2021 recruiting class.
Look to see the Vikings address their need at the guard spots in the late recruiting window.
