"Best Of" The Cleveland Stater Spring 2025 #3
In this edition of the “Best of” The Cleveland Stater, the final one for spring 2025, Jane Matousek takes a detailed look into the timeline of Senate Bill 1 and how CSU President Laura Bloomberg and other university leaders in Ohio engaged with its passage into law. Ruby Darwish covers a student protest outside the City Club of Cleveland where SB1 sponsor Senator Jerry Cirino spoke about the bill. Anthony Reed takes a look at the announcement of Rob Summers as the new men’s basketball coach. Grace Salter reports on a student film that made it into the Cleveland International Film Festival. And finally, Jordan Shelton tells the story of Halle Berry, a Cleveland native who went on to have a successful career in Hollywood, but still calls this area home.

According to Cirino, the bill “aims to restore intellectual diversity and balance,” but many students and faculty across the state were not convinced. The bill will be implemented at CSU and other Ohio universities within the 90-day period after Gov. DeWine signed it into law.
