"Best Of" The Cleveland Stater Spring 2025 #1

In this edition of the "best of" The Cleveland Stater we highlight the rising problem of homelessness in Northeast Ohio, the university's new strategic plan "Cleveland State United," a new broadcast minor, renovation projects and thriving music venues.

In the first edition of the "best of" The Cleveland Stater 2025, Ruby Darwish reports on the rising problem of homelessness in Northeast Ohio, including its potential impacts on students. Sophie Farrar reports on the university's announcement of its new strategic plan “Cleveland State United.” Casey Couch profiles the new broadcasting minor in the School of Communication. Evan Peters gives us insight to CSU’s plaza renovation and Grace Salter visits some of the wonderful venues that are part of Cleveland's thriving music scene.

The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH) has been advocating for Cuyahoga County to address the rise in homelessness. Cleveland State students have joined the NEOCH and The Cleveland Palestine Advocacy Community (CPAC) in their fight for investment in housing insecurity.

President Bloomberg announced new strategic plan "Cleveland State United."

 

President Laura Bloomberg Ph.D. announced the university’s new strategic plan, “Cleveland State United.” The plan will serve as the framework for the university’s priorities, programs and initiatives through 2030, the plan’s mission statement being, “Cleveland’s University. Infinite Opportunity.”

Starting this spring semester, Cleveland State University added a broadcast minor for students to understand the on-and-off camera work that goes into broadcast production. Classic Teleproductions, partnering with the CSU School of Communications, is providing students with their equipment in hopes to scout students who will be entering the workforce soon.

Plaza renovations begin outside the Student Center between Rhodes Tower.

 

The Office of Facilities Management at CSU announced they will begin renovating the plaza between Rhodes Tower and the Student Center to create a more modern space on campus. The university plans to provide students with a centralized outdoor gathering space with improvements to seating, plant life revitalization and the creation of a modern shared campus space.
