Wing Week in Cleveland brought business and buzz to area restaurants

CLEVELAND — Clevelanders rolled up their sleeves and grabbed extra napkins last month as they celebrated Cleveland Wing Week from Aug. 25–31.

The weeklong event spotlighted dozens of local restaurants serving discounted chicken wings with unique sauces, rubs and flavor twists. Wing deals started at $7, offering diners a chance to taste Cleveland favorites without breaking the bank.

“Cleveland Wing Week is seven days of paying homage to the wing,” Cleveland Scene said on the Cleveland Wing Week website. “Each participating restaurant will fry up their own take on the wing — from signature sauces to secret menu specialties and more.”

Great Lakes Brewing Co. sponsored this year’s Wing Week while also featuring exclusive wing flavors at its brewpub, including Korean BBQ, Fresno hot sauce, and Al Pastor.

Other restaurants taking part included Agave & Rye, Betts, Cleveland BrewDog, Crowley’s, Dawg House, Flight Social, Front St. Social, Gunselman’s Tavern, Hi 5, Immigrant Son Brewery, Mahd House Bar & Grill, Nora’s Public House, Old School Pizza & Wings, Proof, Revolution Pizza, Sauced Taproom and Kitchen, Saucy Brew Works, SOL, Suds Maguire’s, Swinging Door Lounge, Team’s Restaurant & Bar, Terrestrial Brewing Co., The Brothers Lounge, The Wild Goose, Tony K’s Bar & Grill and West End Tavern.

Diners could also download the Cleveland Wing Week app on iOS and Android to map out their stops, check in at restaurants and track special offers. Guests who checked in at four participating locations were entered into a drawing for $250 in gift cards.

Agave & Rye showcased creative takes, such as “Thai-ed With Benefits,” featuring Frenched drumsticks with Thai peanut sauce, mango pico, pickled red onions and cilantro, along with “The Birdie Sanders,” a wing taco with egg fried rice, mango colada chicken and gochujang aioli.

“We always look forward to Wing Week because it brings in new guests who might not have tried Agave & Rye before,” said Bill McLaughlin, general manager of the downtown Cleveland location. “It gives us a chance to show that we’re not just about tacos — our wings are just as bold and creative.”

In the kitchen, staff worked hard to keep up with the steady flow of orders throughout the week.

“Events like this really push us to get creative while also making sure we deliver consistently,” said Andre, kitchen manager at Agave & Rye. “It’s exciting to see people’s reactions when they try flavors they weren’t expecting on a wing.”
