WCSB kicks off new live session series

Cleveland State University’s student-run radio station, WCSB, spent the summer planning a weekly series of live-to-broadcast performances. On Sunday, Sept. 7, station members watched it come together for the first time.

WCSB welcomed Post Saga, a Cleveland-based pop-rock indie band with jazz influences, to the station on Sunday, Sept.7 for the first in a new recurring series of in-studio sessions.

The series is called CSB Live, and it will be broadcast locally on WCSB 89.3 FM every Sunday from 10 to 11 p.m.

Each session will feature a live performance from local and touring bands and artists, followed by a short interview hosted by one of WCSB's DJs.

Liam Main, a senior CSU communications major and WCSB's business manager, led the introduction of CSB Live Sessions. He said the program was inspired by his interest in live music and his faith in what the station was capable of.

"We have the space and the credibility coming up on 50 years as a radio station," Main said, "but it's about doing it."

“Now it’s taking this and running with it," Liam Main, who organized CSB Live Sessions, said, "I think it is the beginning of something amazing.”

In the months leading up to the first live session, Main and other station members worked on upgrading equipment, planning logistics and collaborating with station engineers.

"One of the really valuable things about WCSB is that there are so many people that know so much," Main said. "I was really able to use that to my benefit in getting everything together."

WCSB members Joe Harant, Connie Harant, and Liam Main set up the studio for Post Saga’s live performance, Sept. 7, 2025.

Although bands have been brought into the station before, the weekly series is the first of its kind in WCSB's recent history.

"I don't think we've had this sort of initiative take place at the station ever before," Main said. "We're just really excited to have the opportunity to be able to grow our connection with the Cleveland music scene and put WCSB out there on the other level."

WCSB hopes the Sept. 7 session was the first of many, with CSB Live's goal to continue bringing artists into the station for a long time to come.

"I want this to be a program that stays around forever," Main said.

The next session will be Sunday, Sept. 14 with members of the CSU Jazz Combo. It can be heard locally on 89.3 FM or globally online at WCSB.org. Artists can connect with WCSB, and listeners can find more information about upcoming CSB Live Sessions on the website and Instagram, @wcsbcleveland.
