CSU's parking department adds spaces, vehicles, to better serve the community
Cleveland State offers a variety of underutilized parking options and van rental services to improve navigating campus for students.
Parking & Transportation Services at CSU has also taken over parking operations for the Langston and Edge.
Department director Matt Neuman said the addition of the Langston and Edge properties adds more than 400 additional parking spaces for students.
“Parking permits for these two locations makes it easier and more convenient for students,” Neuman said. “In addition, we are selling semester parking permits for these locations at a significantly lower rate than when the facilities were privately managed.”
Currently, student have access to 18 parking lots on or near campus. Passes are pro-rated, so as the semester goes on, the price will fall.
In additional to the new spaces, four new 12-passenger vans are now available for rental by the CSU community. The vans are tax-free with a daily rate of $130 and a weekly rate of $650.
“We have also just ordered a Ford Explorer to add to our rental fleet, hopefully arriving later this fall," Neuman said, adding that it would benefit campus departments, student organizations and sports clubs.
With its large commuter popular, parking can be a hassle. Citations can be stressful, but the parking department can be flexible and understanding in certain situations, as Julia Lastic, a senior and marketing intern for the CSU Parking Department, explained.
“The staff at the Parking department are very understanding and can work with students to resolve issues, just come talk to them,” Lastic said, adding that some situations can be remedied.
Cleveland State's Parking department is located at campus 411, on the first floor of Berkman Hall.
Lastic added that the Parking Department will be hosting a peanut butter drive in late fall, when students will be able to pay their citations, up to $45, by donating jars of peanut butter. Donations will go to the CSU food pantry. Flyers will be posted around campus in the coming weeks.
“If students receive a ticket at the beginning of fall, for example a $30 ticket, they can bring in a couple jars and pay it off,” Lastic said. “It is only offered during the peanut butter drive, so be on the lookout for flyers."
The parking department says it's committed to improving user efficiency and accessibility so that students will have better experiences.
"Our Future plans include investing in maintenance projects at the Central and Main Classroom Garages, as well as expanding parking options at the Theatre & Arts Building (13th Street Garage),” Neuman said. “In addition, we plan to grow the rental vehicle program, potentially adding additional vehicle choices and / or hourly rental options.”
