Cleveland State Wrestling (0-4, 0-2) lost 29-13 to the George Mason Patriots (11-3, 6-0) on Saturday in a home conference match.

The Patriots opened with a 13-9 victory over the Vikings’ Ben Aranda at 125 pounds, starting the match with a 3-0 lead. 

Cleveland State answered, bringing the score to 4-3, as Nick Molchak got a 12-3 major decision at 133 pounds. 

Ethan Mitchell pinned his opponent in 1:32 at 141 pounds, lengthening the Vikings lead to 10-3. 

George Mason won the next two matches by decision, making the score 10-9. The Patriots then went ahead 26-10, winning by a fall at 165 pounds and 184 pounds and a technical fall at 174 pounds.

Cleveland State’s Joey Lyons fought back at 197 pounds, winning in an 8-3 decision, to make the score 26-13. 

No. 25 Daniel Bucknavich ended the match with a 4-3 loss at 285 pounds after an exciting triple overtime fight against his opponent as the Vikings lost the conference match 29-13.

With the win, George Mason stayed top of the Mid-American Conference, while CSU continues to struggle.

Next: Cleveland State takes on Bloomsburg University at 6 p.m. and Clarion University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 at home in the Woodling Gymnasium.
