CSU women’s basketball starts strong with a pre-season win

The Viking women set a favorable tone for the upcoming season with a 76-60 win over visting Edinboro University on Friday.

The Cleveland State women's basketball team kicked off the 2024-2025 season Friday, at home in the Wolstein Center, with an exhibition win 76-60 over Edinboro University.

The official season tips off at Ohio State this Tuesday, the first of 11 non-league games for the Vikings. CSU's official home opener is set for Tuesday, Nov. 12, against Bowling Green State University.

This season, the team has nine returning players who last year helped secure the Vikings' first win in the Horizon League regular season championship and they welcome five new players to the roster

Three returning players, Destiny Leo, Colbi Maples and Mickayla Perdue, earned Preseason All-League honors, with Maples being named the #HLWBB Preseason Player of the Year.

The Vikings were also selected as the preseason favorites to win the Horizon League, marking the first time in program history that Cleveland State has earned this honor.

For the seventh year, the Viking women will be under the direction of head coach Chris Kielsmeier, who enters the 2024-25 season with a career head coaching record of 541-176.
