CSU crushes Brescia 103-37
The Cleveland State men’s basketball team cruised to victory Saturday afternoon as the Vikings defeated visiting Brescia University 103-37. The 66-point margin of victory was the second highest in the history of the program, trailing only a 76-point win in 1986 where the Vikings defeated Clarion 135-61. Cleveland State improved to 6-6 for the season with its second consecutive win.
Cleveland State never trailed in the contest and held the Bearcats scoreless for the final ten minutes, closing the game on a 30-0 run. CSU shot 48 percent from the field, committed just six turnovers and pulled down 50 total rebounds. The Vikings set a new program record with 15 made three-pointers in the contest.
Five players finished in double figures led by Je’Shawn Stevenson who had 17 points. Stevenson shot 50 percent from the field and was perfect on four attempts from the free throw line. Isaac Abidde finished with 14 points, a new season high. Abidde was 5-of-8 from the field and chipped in three rebounds.
Tevin Smith continued a streak of five consecutive games in double figures with 12 points, including 50 percent shooting from three-point range. Danny Young had a breakout performance, finishing with a career-high 11 points. Young finished 3-of-5 from long range. Reece Robinson recorded his first collegiate double-double finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Robinson recorded eight of his 13 boards on the offensive end helping the Vikings tally 30 second chance points.
Cleveland State controlled the game from the outset as the Vikings raced out to a 12-4 lead in the first three minutes of play. The lead quickly improved to double digits and stayed that way for the remainder of the game. The Vikings led by as many as 29 points in the opening half and carried a 25-point edge into the halftime break.
The CSU defense clamped down in the second half as the Vikings held Brescia scoreless for the final 9:57 of game action. Cleveland State closed the game on a 30-0 win and crossed the century mark for the first time in 2024-25.
