Traveling abroad is accessible while being at CSU

CSU offers many opportunities and programs to go abroad for a semester.

The Center for International Services and Programs hosted CSU’s 2026 Education Away Fair in the Student Center Atrium on Oct. 6.

Education Away gives students a variety of opportunities to gain transferable skills that employers look for, gain valuable personal experience, and appreciate different cultures. Some of the educational opportunities are taking classes abroad, taking classes that have a trip abroad during the semester, international work and internships.

CSU students can participate in Kent State’s option to spend a semester abroad or spend four weeks in their Florence center during June. Students would need to complete a guest student application, which grants them temporary Kent State student status. Students would still be enrolled at CSU, but the classes and program would be under Kent State.

Global business, brands and innovation at CSU offers an eight-day trip to both Milan and Florence, Italy. The trip is to experience global business firsthand in Italy, especially beneficial for business majors. Students can explore entrepreneurship, supply chains, sports management, and strategies that turn local expertise into global success. Space is limited, and the application deadline is Oct. 30, 2026.

“We really want to encourage students to get out there and experience the world,” said Dr. Toni Paoletta, an associate college lecturer in the Department of Business. “It works great on a resume. Not only that, but during the interview, they have a great story, or multiple stories.”

CSU offers a chance to study abroad in Costa Rica in the summer of 2028. To be eligible, students are required to have a minimum of one course in Spanish at CSU. It’s an exciting opportunity for students of Spanish language and Latin American cultures, environmental sciences, environmental studies, international relations, health sciences, and international business.

The trip will be an immersive experience to improve Spanish abilities and learn about the culture in Costa Rica. Group excursions will take students to tropical forests, volcanoes, and beaches while also being able to take classes at Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica.

“This isn’t just about earning college credit in a different place. It is an opportunity for you to have experiences that will stay with you for life,” said Ruthie Sasso, graduate student assistant.

Federal Financial Aid and many other grants, scholarships, and loans can be applied to the cost of study abroad. The sooner students start planning to study abroad, the more resources they have  available to them. The Allin1 office in Berkman Hall 116 can help students determine what scholarships and financial aid are available and help plan for the next steps.

The Center for International Services and Programs can help determine where students want to study and which program provider to choose. A budget for the trip will also be determined while planning where to go.

To learn more, visit the Education Away website. Drop-in advising is available Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There’s also an option to book an appointment with an Education Away advisor for students.
