Campus Safety holds seminar on keeping CSU secure
Campus Safety invited students, staff and faculty to an informational seminar Sept. 23 to discuss safety resources, related campus departments and how the community can play its part to help keep Cleveland State University a secure place for all students, staff and faculty.
The CSU Police Department began by explaining the range of services they offer students, including the easiest ways to contact the department. They shared facts some students may not know, including that 911 calls are directed to CSUPD, and provided non-emergency numbers to book a safety escort or report something.
Next, the Office of Emergency Management presented how safety procedures are carried out in an emergency, such as a fire. They also shared that faculty and staff usually help with the procedures, since they are the ones on campus during an emergency.
Other departments also explained their role in making campus safer. IS&T shared cyber awareness tips, and the Fire Safety department explained how they inspect prevention systems.
As an example of its work, Fire Safety described how it handled last week's closure of Berkman Hall and the Student Center due to a water main break on Sept. 23.
Access Control detailed how restricted areas are accessed and how safety is maintained day to day. With a variety of electric lockbox systems, students and staff can go about their day safely, with minimal interruption and seamless access.
Parking & Transportation closed out the event, explaining the Viking Safety Escort service and CSU's brand-new rent-a-car program available to staff and students. This service supports projects and general transportation and currently has three cars and one van.
