Cleveland State men’s basketball weathered a rugged encounter with Division II Edinboro University, prevailing 75-61 to claim their first victory of the season.
CSU men’s basketball made a united effort, but lost in their home-opener against Ohio University, 67-56, Saturday evening at the Wolstein Center. Broc Finstuen led the Vikings with 14 points off the bench, as well as five rebounds and two steals.
After a long, hard-fought season, the Vikings lost their final match to the Raiders at home, but did not let it go easy. CSU took the first set, left some slack in the second and kept WSU on edge for the final two.
The Vikings came up short against Oakland's Golden Grizzlies in Saturday's conference championship game, falling 3-1 to end the season as runners-up in the Horizon League.
Trailing at halftime, 1-0, Cleveland State men’s soccer advanced to the Horizon League championship for the first time since 2012 after defeating Milwaukee, 2-1, on Thursday. Albert Portas and Andrew Nicholas came through with the goals for the Green and White.
Cleveland State men’s basketball came up short on opening night as it fell to BYU, 69-59, in a non-conference road matchup on Tuesday evening in Provo, Utah. Broc Finstuen provided the Vikings with a spark off the bench in his CSU debut, tallying 11 points, four steals and three rebounds.
Cleveland State women’s basketball put in a strong performance on opening night, routing East Tennessee State, 81-54, at the Wolstein Center on Tuesday evening. The Vikings were led by a game-high 24 points from sophomore Destiny Leo.
Barbara Zieniewska took a different route than most to make it to Division I basketball. From winning a bronze medal with Poland, to playing in community colleges in New Mexico and Texas, she finally came to Cleveland State.
