Pablo Kawecki’s game-winning goal in the 104th minute of double overtime lifted Cleveland State over Robert Morris on the road Wednesday. 

The win improves the Vikings to 6-1 in Horizon League play as they remain at the top of the league standings with just four games left in the regular season. 

Kawecki notched his fourth goal of the year in riveting fashion, sneaking in the shot from the middle of the box off assists from Jannis Schmidt and Bojan Kolevski. The junior tallied four shots on the night — with the final one finding the back of the net. 

The Vikings (7-5) defense controlled most of the first half while the offense managed five shots. The Colonials (3-9, 3-4) struggled to get through CSU’s middle line but did come away with four shots of their own in the opening half.

Cleveland State continued to stay one step ahead of Robert Morris, touting a 6-5 advantage in second half shots. The Vikings also finished with a 6-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. CSU had plenty of opportunities on the side, posting an 8-3 edge in corner kicks as head coach Siniša Ubiparipović’s men were determined to stay aggressive on the pitch. 

Cleveland State’s defense continued to shine into the second half. Junior goalkeeper Omeed Naeemy anchored the Green and White’s side of the net as he finished with five saves. He also recorded his second shutout of the season. Robert Morris’ Grant Glorioso tallied five saves in the loss. 

The Vikings return home to face Northern Kentucky on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
