CSU women’s volleyball defeats Oakland 3-1
Cleveland State University’s women’s volleyball team earned another victory with a 3-1 win over Oakland. The Vikings are now 11-3 overall this season and 2-1 in Horizon League play.
In the opening set, CSU took a 15-11 lead after back-to-back kills by Chloe List and JeriLynn Koehler. The Vikings further extended their lead with a service ace from Koehler and a kill by Nia Hall, bringing up set point. List's kill secured a decisive 25-18 victory in the first set.
Oakland bounced back to win the second set, but CSU responded with a close 25-23 win in the third set.
The Vikings carried that momentum into the fourth set. A kill by Liberty Torres midway through put CSU ahead 15-9. They widened their lead to 20-12 after an Oakland error, and another Torres kill sealed the set with a 25-21 win, clinching the match.
Four Vikings finished with double-digit kills. Koehler led with 17, Hall and Torres contributed 13 each and List added 12.
Ella Mihacevich delivered an outstanding performance, recording 50 assists, 11 digs and seven kills.
On defense, Ayva Leon led the team with 19 digs, followed by Emma Walker with 16 and Lesley Marshall with 10.
CSU will be on the road for the first time in Horizon League play this weekend, facing Wright State in a two-match series on Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5.
