Cleveland State women’s soccer shut out 3-0 by Niagara

Cleveland State women’s soccer came up empty on the scoreboard as it fell to Niagara, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Purple Eagles (3-1-0) wasted little time jumping on the board as a goal from Florence Vailancourt came in the first minute of play.

Cleveland State (1-3-1) held its own throughout the rest of the first half but relinquished a pair of goals to Niagara’s Maia MacLean in the second half with a shot in the 52nd minute, and another 16 minutes later. Both scores were assisted by Vailancourt.

Niagara tallied 17 shots, including 10 on goal. Cleveland State tallied 12 shots in the match, including three on goal. The Purple Eagles posted four corner kicks to only one from the Green and White. Goalkeeper Mollie McGuire tallied six saves for the Vikings in the loss.

The Vikings head to Akron on Thursday to face the Zips at 7 p.m. It’s the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools. The Vikings won the last meeting 2-1 in double overtime.
