“Scooby Doo”’s Mather Mansion Mystery highlighted CSU's Halloween

CAB and CSU Residence Life organized the event Oct. 30, which featured a ghost tour, dance floor, craft room and more.

‘Twas the night before Halloween, and all through the mansion, CSU students were crafting, dancing and joining in the scary fun.

Cleveland State’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Department of Residence Life and Housing hosted Wednesday's “Scooby-Doo”’s Mather Mansion Mystery, a new rendition of Fenn Tower of Terror.

The groups had to revamp the annual event due to Fenn Tower’s closure for renovations, moving it to the residence hall’s backyard neighbor, Mather Mansion, and giving it an updated name.

“Scooby-Doo”’s Mather Mansion Mystery had many of the same elements as Fenn Tower of Terror, including a dance floor, pumpkin painting, food and giveaways.

Other elements were updated and added to make “Scooby-Doo”’s Mather Mansion Mystery its own event and different to Fenn Tower of Terror.

A “Scooby-Doo” viewing room was added to fit the theme of the event. Students could watch various “Scooby-Doo” episodes and movies handpicked by “Scooby-Doo” superfan and CSU resident assistant (RA), Alyssa Brown.

The event also featured a ghost tour instead of the usual haunted house, led by RAs Christian Darrin and Brooke Kirkbride, playing into the rumors of real-life ghosts at Mather Mansion. RAs-turned-scare actors Abby Hout, Bella Perez and Kyle Yates added to the participants' fear with their spooks, keeping the spirit of Fenn Tower of Terror’s haunted house alive.

The night ended with a costume contest judged by Brown, RA Dominique Sheppard and CAB President Allison Wintz. Ten contestants were chosen randomly from a bucket where they had submitted their name on a slip earlier in the night. The top three contestants received prize baskets with Halloween and “Scooby Doo” themed goodies.

Winning first was Logan Willis dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Second place was Marissa Stone dressed as Freddy Krueger from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and third place was Samantha Gogol dressed as Rapunzel from “Tangled.”

CAB’s next event is the annual CABsino from 7-11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. This year’s theme is “CABseasons.” There will be casino games for students to play, as well as raffle baskets, food and more.
