CSU responds to anti-Semitic graffiti on campus

CSU responded quickly to a hateful message that was graffitied on campus on Sept. 21.

An anti-Semitic message was graffitied on the outside of the Union Building at Cleveland State University on Sept. 21. The university said it worked quickly to remove the hateful message and extended its sincere apologies for the impact that it had on members of the community.

CSU's Vice President for Campus Engagement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Phillip “Flapp” Cockrell, Ph.D., said in a message that the university, “strongly condemns this type of unacceptable behavior,” and “we embrace and support a culture of diversity and inclusion.”

The administration said in the message that destroying property is unlawful, and a direct violation of the university's policies. The student or community member responsible could face criminal and vandalism charges, sanctioning under the student code of conduct.

CSU's Office of Institutional Equity is investigating the incident, and has asked community members that if they have any information about the incident to file an anonymous report via Ethics Point or CSU’s Report a Concern website.
