CSU Faculty Senate discusses future plans for university
Cleveland State University’s Faculty Senate convened Nov. 6 to discuss key topics impacting students and faculty, and the university's strategic goals.
CSU President Laura Bloomberg, Ph.D. started her report by addressing the recent U.S. elections and emphasizing the university’s role as a beacon of diversity and education.
The administration also provided an update on Ohio’s requirement for public universities to review low-enrollment courses and duplicated programs.
The president said that this year, CSU received the necessary data and templates earlier than usual, allowing more time to ensure the report was thorough and collaborative.
Bloomberg said faculty will play a significant role in the process, ensuring the data accurately reflects CSU’s academic priorities and that valuable but low-enrolled programs are not hastily eliminated.
The Faculty Senate also discussed steps to enhance budgetary transparency and planning. Going forward, CSU will aim to approve budgets on time, with the 2026 fiscal year budget targeted for completion by May. The administration is also exploring clearer ways to communicate financial updates to faculty, ensuring everyone is informed about spending and revenue trends.
These discussions underscore CSU’s dedication to fostering a collaborative and inclusive academic environment while addressing student and faculty needs. The next Faculty Senate meeting is expected to provide updates on these initiatives.
The Faculty Senate reconvened Nov. 25 to further discuss these and other pressing topics.
