CAB’s Glow Party returns with record attendance

The Campus Activities Board’s annual Glow Party made a grand reappearance on campus, with 1,525 attendees.

CAB threw the party of the year on Friday, Mar. 25 with its annual tradition of Glow Party, a rave that took over all three floors of the Student Center.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout than what we got,” said event planner Carley Barnett. “Planning a tradition like Glow Party, I felt a lot of pressure to make this event as great as it’s been in years past.”

Attendance-wise, this year’s Glow Party blew past Glow Parties out of the water, with a whopping 1,525 attendees, surpassing every other Glow Party by more than 200. Barnett stated that she believes the attendance number is significantly lower than actual attendance, as many students snuck around back in order to skip the long check-in line.

The event featured a DJ on the first floor, a nacho bar and giveaways on the second floor, and roller-skating and Dance Dance Revolution on the third floor.

“I liked the roller-skating the most,” said event attendee Genevieve Crowly. “It was a nice way to escape from being squished between bodies down on the dance floor.”

Each year, the event planner gets a $45,000 budget to plan Glow Party however they want. This year, Barnett chose the theme “Y2Krazy,” playing songs from the late 90s and early aughts, encouraging attendees to dress up in Britney Spears-era fashion, and decorating the premises with CDs and iridescent paraphernalia.

“With the theme, I wanted to choose something that was top of mind,” Barnett said, “and I feel like Y2K fashion and aesthetics are making a comeback, so I thought Y2K was a theme students could connect with.”

After being canceled for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Glow Party is back and bigger than ever, showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
