
"Best of" The Cleveland Stater fall 2024 #1
In this edition of the “best of” The Cleveland Stater, we lead with Casey Couch's coverage of the 2024 Cleveland National Air Show. We also report on the fall semester’s first faculty senate meeting. Evan Peters then walks us through CSU’s emerging strategic plan. On a lighter note, Alex Martinez reviews the 2024 Cleveland Gaming Classic. And Casey Couch reports on the Rec Center's fund-raising golf tournament. Who knew that President Bloomberg was a golfer?!
A late summer tradition, the Cleveland National Air Show has been soaring over the city for 60 years. Casey Couch was there this year taking photos and videos and meeting people. Her interviews included Cleveland Metro life flight pilot, Peter Augusta, and a Blue Angels crew pilot.

CSU’s faculty senate addressed budget issues and student success at their first meeting of the fall semester. Major takeaways were that the administration believes Cleveland State can expect growth in the student population, a decrease in CSU's debt and new strategic plans and structures that will better address some of the challenges the university has been struggling with.

Cleveland State University President Laura Bloomberg, Ph.D., hosted a webinar Sept. 3 to discuss CSU’s development over the next four months of a strategic plan. The planning task force laid out its plan, "Vision 2030," to address the university’s budget and enrollment crisis.

Alex Martinez had comprehensive coverage of the 2024 Cleveland Gaming Classic Sept. 20-22 at the IX Center. Headliners of the convention included Ed Boon, a creator of cult classic game "Mortal Kombat." The event included retro cabinet games, indie games, food vendors and panels. The convention not only celebrating gaming, but also raised money for “CGC for the Cure."

Golfers met on Bunker Hill Golf Course Sept. 13 to play and raise money for student scholarships at Cleveland State University. Over 100 golfers attended in support of the CSU Recreation Center’s Excellence Fund.
