Annual CSU career fair returns, attracts record number of employers
Hundreds of students from the region's top universities had the chance Wednesday to make their pitch to employers at the first on-campus job fair Cleveland State University has been able to host since COVID-19 hit in early 2020.
“We’ve got such a variety of businesses represented here, so we’re hopeful that students can make connections that will get them moving in their careers,” said Brianne Kistler, Career Exploration and Development communications strategist.
For the first time ever, the event was in collaboration with career-connection offices at John Carroll University, Baldwin Wallace University and Case Western Reserve University. Students or alumni from any of the four universities involved could attend.
A record number of 89 businesses attended the event to speak with students and alumni looking for job prospects and networking opportunities.
Businesses and institutions present at the event included marquee sponsor Avient, the Cleveland Guardians, U.S. Army, Target, Wooster City Schools and Bellefaire JCB, to name but some of the dozens of employers looking for the best and brightest to join their companies.
“I’m so glad this happened in person this year because I wouldn’t have known it was happening if I hadn’t been on campus,” said senior marketing major Edgar Setson. “I have multiple job possibilities just from talking with people here, and I don’t know how I would’ve gotten them otherwise.”
Kistler noted that students often place all of their focus on simply completing college, while failing to plan beyond graduation. The Office of Career Exploration and Development, as well as its annual career fairs, exists to ensure that students are confident, connected and equipped to enter the real world.
The Office of Career Exploration and Development offered consultation meetings to help students prepare their résumés for the event. Further, students who registered ahead of time were entered to win a free iPad.
The Office of Career Exploration and Development, located in Rhodes West room 280, offers career advancement support all year long, including résumé consultation and aid in networking opportunities.
