RMU Colonials defeat CSU Vikings 1-0 in women's soccer
The Cleveland State Vikings lost to the Robert Morris Colonials 1-0 on Thursday.
The Vikings had their chances. Mayra Sesmas fired a powerful shot in the 18th minute from 25 yards out, only to see it bounce off the crossbar.
Just three minutes later, the Colonials struck with Paloma Swankler capitalizing on a short corner by Ava Trethewey and Haleigh Finale.
Despite going into the break down 1-0, the Vikings had the best of play during the first half, holding an 8-3 advantage in shots going into halftime.
In the second half, CSU continued to push but had another miss in the 55th minute when Erica Leinweber's shot also hit the crossbar. The Vikings never let up, but were unable to convert, with neither team scoring in the second half.
Cleveland State outshot the Colonials 18-9 and had 4-3 shots on the goal edge. Leinweber and Sesmas each led the team with three shots, while Elyse Broderick made two key saves in goal.
Cleveland State ((0-13-1, 0-7-0) concluded its three-game homestand on Sunday, losing 2-1 to Detroit Mercy.
The Vikings now head to Youngstown State, hoping to get into the win column on Thursday.
