Students kick off fall semester fun at Vikingfest

The goal of the event was to introduce incoming and current students to the many clubs and teams that they can get involved with this academic year.

Cleveland State students gathered on campus Aug. 24 to to celebrate welcome week with Vikingfest, a street fair that included games, food, performances and the presence of many student organizations.

Vikingfest, hosted by the Division of Student Belonging and Success, was one of many “WoW,” or week of welcome, events on campus. Its goal was to introduce incoming and current students to the many clubs and teams that they can get involved with this academic year.

The event started at noon, featuring The Longship and Barrio food trucks adjacent to a sea of eager students patiently waiting for their turn on inflatables including obstacle courses, bouncy houses and a rock climbing wall.

Outside the law building, puzzled students attended an impromptu masterclass with The Balloon Vibe on how to make a balloon dog, which each student then got to take home if they were successful.

Counseling services, student services, and therapy dogs (including Cleveland State’s own Rune and Thor), all made appearances during the event to educate students on the resources that are available to them during the academic year.

In the quad outside Berkman Hall, student organizations such as club sport teams, fraternities and sororities, fitness groups and academic-related clubs passed out fliers and met potential new members helping to promote student extracurricular involvement on campus this year.
