Levin's Dr. Jill Gordon will wear the deans' free throw crown for 2025

Levin College of Public Affairs and Education Dean Jill Gordon, Ph.D., defeated CSU Law's Dr. Lee Fisher to take the 2025 deans' free throw crown.

Deans from all seven of Cleveland State University's colleges joined the annual “Challenge of The Deans,” during the men’s basketball game against Robert Morris University, Feb. 12, 2025, with Levin's Dr. Jill Gordon dethroning last year's winner, Dr. Lee Fisher of the CSU Law College.

“We’re (Gordon and her student teammate) going to kill it,” Gordon said, warming to the task.

The contest pitted two deans during each time out, during which they and their student proxy had to shoot as many free throws as possible in the allotted 30-second window.

In a ranking system, each dean and their partner's score had to be the highest overall to win. This year, it was Gordon who took the crown, narrowly beating out second place and last year's winner, CSU College of Law Dean Lee Fisher, J.D.

“It wasn’t part of the job description,” Gordon joked. “I don’t understand it at all.”

The show of school spirit and friendly competition was a welcome relief for the crowd.

In the night's other contest, league-leading CSU went down to Robert Morris, 68-59, for CSU's first conference defeat at home.

Despite the loss, the redoubtable Vikings remain top of the Horizon League at 12-4 (18-9 overall) with Robert Morris now in 2nd place at 12-5 (20-8) overall.
