ASSAULT IN FENN TOWER
A Cleveland State University Police Department officer responded Feb. 5 to an assault that occurred in Fenn Tower. A student resident reported hearing a knock at his dormitory door at 10 p.m. on Feb. 4.
His roommate let the suspect and the suspect’s girlfriend into the common area. After a verbal altercation regarding a sexual encounter with the girlfriend last semester, the suspect punched the victim’s upper left cheek and his right eye. The suspect’s girlfriend punched the victim as well, calling him a “pervert and rapist.”
The responding officer took evidentiary photos of the victim’s face after seeing visible injuries to his left cheek and right eye. The victim said he would pursue criminal charges against the suspect but not the suspect’s girlfriend. The victim declined emergency medical services.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE IN SOUTH GARAGE
A CSUPD officer responded Feb. 2 to a student’s vehicle damage report in the South Garage. The officer discovered parts of the driver’s side headlight lens on the ground in front of the vehicle and the windshield wiper and arm on the ground next to the driver’s side door. The student said her headlight had been previously damaged in an accident but had been taped in place, and the wiper arm and blade had been intact when she parked her vehicle.
The officer observed the broken headlight lens and a large missing section of the plastic lens, but noted no other damage to that portion of the vehicle, which suggested to him that the damage did not occur because of a collision. Instead, the damage to the wiper blade appeared to be the result of someone breaking it off and bending it.
Because a camera was not working properly, attempting to review surveillance footage was unsuccessful. Police notified Access and Control regarding the malfunctioning camera.
ASSAULT AT WOLSTEIN CENTER
A CSUPD officer arrested a suspect on Jan. 30 shortly after midnight at the Wolstein Center for Assault and a Contempt of Court Warrant with the City of Cleveland.
During a training session for temporary workers under the direction of two Cleveland State staff members, one temporary worker began verbally abusing the staff members. The suspect struck one victim on the left side of the face with an open hand and struck the other victim in the face with a closed fist three times.
The victims fled the scene and notified the police. The victims told the officer the suspect was still inside the Wolstein Center working. The officer located the suspect, arrested him and transported him to the Cuyahoga County Jail and booked him for the arresting charges.
The officer observed visible contusions and red marks on both victims’ faces. First responders took one victim to St. Vincent Charity Hospital. The other victim declined medical attention.
From Jan. 30 to Feb. 18 CSUPD responded to three assaults, three motor vehicle trespasses, five thefts, four criminal damaging and endangering complaints, one menacing complaint and one felony warrant.
