Cleveland State University Pre-Veterinary club hosted CITY DOGS, an adoption program for Cleveland Animal Care and Control (CACC), in the Student Center, Dec. 6. The team brought in Stella, one of many adoptable dogs, as part of the university’s Global Care Week.

Those who attended the CITY DOGS de-stress event needed to sign a waiver saying that if Stella bit or injured them, the kennel and the Pre-Veterinary club were not liable. But after that was done, they were free to pet and cuddle with Stella.

Stella is a 2-year-old terrier and American pit bull mix and is one of over 170 dogs currently available for adoption at the CITY DOGS kennels. She was very affectionate and often leaned into those nearby.

According to volunteers of CITY DOGS at the event, the kennel only has enough space for 130 dogs, forcing  some pups to sleep in offices and makeshift cages.

CITY DOGS is a completely volunteer group of the CACC. The mission of CITY DOGS is to prepare adoptable dogs for their future homes, create opportunities for the public to meet the adoptable pups and change the image of the pit bull dogs, the breed of dogs which make up a majority of the kennel’s population.

CITY DOGS encourages anyone who is interested in adopting to fill out a meet and greet form as the kennel is not always able to handle unscheduled visits. The kennel is located at 9203 Detroit Ave. in Cleveland and opens at 10 a.m. every day.
