Black History: Black Expression Matters

Feb. 4th, 2019

Cleveland State University Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be host BlaXpression, an event that focuses on Black History Month and what black culture and heritage means to individuals, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the student center atrium from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

BlaXpression will have Dave G., a spoken word poet from Philadelphia, Penn. who went to The Pennsylvania State University, where he got his Bachelor of Arts in English in 2017. While he was still in school, he was president of Penn State Writers Organized to Represented Diverse Stories (WORDS). He was also on its performance team. Some of his work has also been published in different magazines, and he has won several competitions for his poems.

This event is a part of CAB’s Black History Month celebrations and will feature lights snacks and giveaways, as well. There also will be time for students to be able to create their own poems about Black History Month and what their culture and heritage means to them, individually.

Many students on this campus are looking forward to this event, as it pays homage to black culture. CAB representatives say they haven’t done an event quite like this one before so anticipation is high. They advise that if you are planning on going to this event, you’ll want to get there early to get a good seat.

CAB holds events to foster student participation such as Magnus Fest, the Glow Party, Plazapalooza, FallFest, SpringFest, and a host of other events throughout the school year. You can check their website and social media pages for information on their future events.
