CSU alumna promotes new book, hosts dance workshop

Cleveland State alumna Stella Hall promoted her newest novel “Joe,” with an event at the Shaker Dance Academy on Nov. 24 and 25.

Hall, author and model, graduated from Cleveland State in 2001 with a focus on broadcast journalism. Her works have appeared in Ebony and Today’s Black Woman, as well as many other publications.

Hall’s novel, “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote.” was made into an indie film that aired at multiple film festivals and made Official Selection for the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival in 2013.

With the help of international French professional dancer and choreographer Yanis Marshall, Hall promoted her most recent novel “Joe,” as well as allowed attendees to pre-order it.

“Joe” is about Natalie “Nat” Cordell, a woman who almost has everything her heart desires. The only thing she is missing is a ring from the man she loves. The only way for her to get the ring is to give up her career as an exotic dancer.

“When a new man enters her life — a man whom she only knows by his cologne and who lavishes her with money for only minutes of her time,” Hall wrote, “Nat has to confront what it is she really wants out of life and love.”

Hall brought in Marshall to bring her novel to life through dance. He taught three different dance workshops: street jazz, heels, and a heels master class for the more advanced dancers.

“The event went extremely well,” Hall said. “In the upcoming months I plan on bringing Marshall back to teach three more classes that will feature street jazz, heels, and a
